Tractors are one of the most important elements for farmers to perform daily farming operations. From tractor gear, and tractor attachments to tractor tires every part should be observed properly to obtain good results. Now one of the significant questions that arise is when a grower should consider tire or wheel conversions in their tractors. There is no facility where people can obtain “one size fits all” formulae for their tractor tires, therefore it is a must to identify the correct tire and the correct time to change tires in the machinery.

Different operations require different sets of tires even for the same equipment like during crop applications large flotation tires are likewise used for broadband applications without a crop standing and skinny tires are preferred to reduce any crop damage. Therefore to be particular and precise growers can follow Rolling Circumference Index (RCI) Chart which provides accurate information on the front and rear tires to each other giving a gear ratio.

For example, to meet the requirements of a "5 Step Tractor," the typical Mechanical front wheel drive axle (MFWD) tractor can be equipped with either 480/80R50 rear tires and 420/85R34 front tires or any combination where there is a 5-step difference on the RCI Chart, such as RCI 47 rear tires and RCI 42 front tires with smaller diameters.

There should be regular checkups for every part of the machinery. Tires are considered a portion or a part of tractor transmission. Likewise, tractors have 5 Steps between front and rear tires, there are 4 and 6-step tractors present too.

Tractor brands like John Deere, provide the frame for Step Indicator. For a 4-step Tractor refer RCI Chart. One can select RCI 48 and match RCI 44 Front. RCI 48-44 brings 4 step difference between front and rear tires. Therefore proper guidance is to be taken or tractor manufacturers shall be connected for any queries. This will provide assurance, especially for the steps if they are correct and if alternate specific sizes can work.
