Assam's state government has launched the Tractor Distribution Scheme for farmers as part of the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojna (CMSGUY). His scheme's main goal is to revitalize the agricultural sector and help farmers double their income by the end of 2022.

Objective of the Scheme

A tractor distribution scheme can be applied by a group of 8-10 adult farmers. If farmers use these tractors properly, this scheme will help the agriculture sector. Farmers can use these tractors for agricultural purposes, thereby promoting Assam's growth. The state government has set aside Rs 1000 crore for the scheme's successful implementation.

The Assam tractor scheme is for the development of a village to increase agricultural production. The group can select the tractor's make and model, and the tractor will be rented to the farmers.

Application Eligibility for Assam Tractor Scheme:

  • Individuals are not eligible for Assam Tractor Scheme benefits.
  • A group of 8-10 members who are the village's actual adult farmers.
  • To be eligible for the tractor scheme, the group must have a common bank account and apply jointly, with the signatures of each member on the application form, preferably along with details of the land and crops cultivated.
  • No more than one application should be from the same family.

Application and Selection Process

  • The Department of Agriculture and the Mega Mission Society will raise awareness about the scheme among state farmers through DAOs, newspaper advertisements, telecasts, broadcasts, pamphlets, brochures, and other means.
  • The applicant groups must submit their applications in the prescribed format to the District Agriculture Officer, who will present them to DLC.
  • The DLC will select one eligible group in each village from a waiting list, with a deposit of at least 10% of the total price of the tractor unit in the group's bank account in the branch concerned.
  • The DLC decision is final and binding on the applicants/groups.
  • The names of the selected groups will be communicated by the Member Secretary.

Subsidy Provision

The selected groups will receive a 70% subsidy (up to Rs. 5.5 lakhs) on the purchase price of the tractor unit including implements. The bank will lend 20% of the amount, while the applicant member group will be responsible for the remaining 10%.

Monitoring of Assam Tractor Scheme

The state government will provide these tractors with public funds, so farmers must ensure proper utilization. As a result, locals will keep an eye on how well these tractors are used.

In addition, the government will establish a separate unit within the Agricultural Department to provide information to beneficiaries and monitor their activities. Beneficiaries must now submit work progress reports to the agricultural department every three months. This scheme, which is the largest in the country, will provide a tractor to one farm unit in each revenue village.
