Wheat planting has increased by 3.36% so far: Department of Agriculture

According to service data, wheat is sown on 35.8 lakh hectare in Madhya Pradesh, 34.98 lakh hectare in Uttar Pradesh, 29.45 lakh hectare in Punjab, 13.78 lakh hectare in Haryana and 13.37 lakh hectare in Rajasthan so far in the ongoing season. These are the fastest growing wheat regions in the country.

The area where wheat was planted, the largest Rabi crop yield, increased by 3.36 percent to 138.35 lakh so far in the current Rabi season from 133.84 lakh during last year, according to the department of agriculture. Rabi planting begins in October while harvesting begins in March. Besides wheat, gram and mustard are some of the main Rabi crops.

With the exception of wheat, the area planted in pulses increased to 97.53 lakh hectares as on November 26 this season from 94.02 lakh hectares last year. The area planted with coarse grain and nutrient seeds have been slightly lower at 25.87 hectares lakh compared to last year. Oilseeds acreage increased to 76.60 lakh hectares this season from 60.15 lakh hectares last year. The total area planted with Rabi plants was 346.13 lakh so far in the Rabi season of 2021-22 , up from 322.70 lakh hectares in the past year.

The annual crop year in India runs from July to June. Sowing has so far done in more than 50 percent in a typical Rabi area of ​​625.14 lakh.
