Uttar Pradesh Govt Launches Ambitious Rabi Campaign 2023 to Boost Food Grain & Oilseed Production
In an effort to bridge disparities in the area coverage, overall production, and productivity of crucial Rabi crops across various districts, the government has initiated a unique approach. Farmers, scientists, and officials from different districts will embark on field visits to interact with progressive farmers in regions boasting maximum productivity.
In a bid to bolster the agricultural sector and fulfil the needs of its dedicated farming community, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government, with guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has unveiled an ambitious strategy for the Rabi campaign of 2023. This comprehensive plan aims to significantly enhance the production of food grains and oilseeds, with a robust target set at 448.66 metric tonnes, surpassing the previous year's production of 427.83 metric tonnes.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been unwavering in his commitment to doubling the income of farmers and has tirelessly spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at increasing agricultural output while simultaneously reducing production costs. Under the Rabi Campaign 2023, the government has set its sights on covering 134.85 lakh hectares of agricultural land, with a vision to produce a staggering 448.66 lakh metric tonnes of food grains and oilseeds.
The campaign's objectives are underpinned by detailed crop-wise production targets, including 397.80 lakh metric tonnes for wheat, 6.13 lakh metric tonnes for barley, 9.71 lakh metric tonnes for gram, 8 lakh metric tonnes for peas, 6.69 lakh metric tonnes for lentils, and 19.50 lakh metric tonnes for mustard. Collectively, these targets contribute to the overarching goal of producing 428.77 lakh metric tonnes of food grains and 19.90 lakh metric tonnes of oilseeds, culminating in the grand objective of 448.66 lakh metric tonnes for Rabi 2023.

To ensure the successful execution of this ambitious plan, the government has devised a multifaceted strategy. This strategy encompasses timely arrangements for agricultural investments, a cluster-based approach to maximize crop productivity, interventions designed around cropping systems, with a special focus on pulses, oilseeds, and nutri-cereals. Additionally, the government aims to increase cropping density, seed replacement, and species replacement rates while optimizing the efficient use of water for irrigation and crop nutrition.

As per available data for the 2022-23 crop production season, noteworthy achievements include Shamli recording the highest wheat productivity at 48.88 quintals per hectare, Jaunpur leading in gram yield with an impressive 21.41 quintals per hectare, Sultanpur topping the lentil productivity charts at 20.40 quintals per hectare, Firozabad excelling in mustard production with 25.05 quintals per hectare, and Mathura achieving the highest barley yield at 37.30 quintals per hectare.
With this proactive and holistic approach, the Yogi government aims to not only elevate the economic status of farmers but also enhance the overall agricultural landscape of Uttar Pradesh. The Rabi Campaign 2023 is poised to be a pivotal moment in the state's agricultural journey, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity for all involved in this critical sector.
