USD 1 Trillion Economy Target: UP Govt Crafts Plan to Elevate Agriculture Sector
Collaboration with startups has emerged as a central theme, aimed at infusing technology into agriculture. Activities such as crop mapping and transforming raw produce into ready-to-consume goods have gained prominence.
Uttar Pradesh's Yogi government is forging an ambitious path towards positioning the agricultural sector as a cornerstone industry in its journey to achieve a one trillion dollar economy. Recent discussions between the Chief Secretary and representatives from the World Bank unveiled the state's remarkable strides in agriculture, shedding light on the sector's immense potential to propel the state towards its lofty economic goal.
In collaboration with Deloitte India, the government is working diligently to elevate Uttar Pradesh's economic stature to unprecedented heights. Recognizing agriculture's pivotal role in this endeavour, Deloitte India presented a compelling vision to World Bank representatives, outlining how the sector will serve as a linchpin in realizing the state's grand aspirations.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi, the past six years have witnessed a surge of innovation in the agricultural domain, leading to notable enhancements in productivity. With Uttar Pradesh now at the forefront of wheat production and securing the second position in rice cultivation, the state's agricultural prowess is evident. Moreover, a diverse array of crops is flourishing across its landscapes.
The government's commitment to harnessing innovation within agriculture is set to revolutionize farming practices and lay the foundation for the future of agriculture. Chief Minister Yogi's vision is to foster the adoption of cutting-edge agricultural technologies, which is not only capturing attention but also stoking public interest in this transformative field. A comprehensive strategy for agriculture has been meticulously formulated, with two core segments leading the way.

The first segment centres on crops and crop processing, with strategies designed to amplify yields through the establishment of seed parks and agri-junctions. By introducing modern farming practices, this approach seeks to empower individuals with agricultural knowledge. A concerted drive towards enhancing the cultivation of pulses, sesame, millet, and maize is in motion, supported by agricultural mechanization to bolster efficiency and output.
Collaboration with startups has emerged as a central theme, aimed at infusing technology into agriculture. Activities such as crop mapping and transforming raw produce into ready-to-consume goods have gained prominence. A paramount focus on post-harvest development seeks to curtail losses, streamline agricultural logistics, and minimize administrative hurdles.
In tandem, the second segment focuses on dairy, poultry, and fisheries. Efforts are directed towards boosting dairy production by increasing average milk yields from 4.2 kilograms to 5 kilograms per day. This initiative encompasses breed improvement, semen technology, animal care, and nutritional advancements. Fish farming and productivity enhancement form a crucial component of the strategy, emphasizing water resource utilization, quality seeds, and progressive shrimp farming practices.
The broader strategy outlines a roadmap for elevating poultry production, concentrating on clusters, efficient feed management, and elevating egg production to an impressive 300 eggs per year per bird.
As Uttar Pradesh's Yogi government continues to foster innovation, collaborate with partners, and propel agricultural advancements, the state is charting a transformative course. This resolute commitment to the agricultural sector's growth not only accelerates Uttar Pradesh's journey towards a trillion-dollar economy but also serves as an inspirational model for sustainable development and economic progress on a global stage.
