Tripura Farmers Boosted by Launch of 'First Agri App' that Provides Weather Updates & Easy Market Access
Tripura farmers are set to benefit from the launch of the state's first agriculture-focused mobile app, led by Bagma Agri Producers Company Limited (BAPCL) with NABARD support. The app offers real-time weather updates, expert advice on farming practices, market rates, and direct buyer connections, revolutionizing agricultural practices for enhanced productivity and fair pricing.
Tripura is all set to launch its first-ever mobile app dedicated to agriculture, aiming to transform the way farmers access information and connect with the market. This initiative is headed by the Bagma Agri Producers Company Limited (BAPCL), a farmer-producer organization (FPO), with support from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The app, expected to launch within the next few weeks targets to change Tripura's agricultural sector. It will provide farmers with a wealth of useful information, including, real-time weather updates and forecasts where farmers will have access to accurate weather data, empowering them to make informed decisions about their crops, expert advice on fertilizer and pesticide use where the app will offer personalized recommendations on the right fertilizers and pesticides to use, optimizing yield and minimizing waste.
This app will also guide farmers on the ideal times to sow and harvest their crops, ensuring maximum productivity, and will farmers directly with buyers, eliminating exploitation and fetching them the best possible prices for their produce.

"Government apps often miss out on market fluctuations, leading to farmers selling at lower prices," explains Sudip Majumder, founder of BAPCL. He further added, "Our application aims to close this divide by furnishing farmers with daily updates on market rates throughout the state, enabling them to engage in more favorable negotiations."
Developed by a local company with an investment of Rs 10 lakh, the app is designed to be user-friendly and accessible even in remote areas. BAPCL plans to conduct awareness campaigns to ensure widespread adoption among farmers.

Agricultural expert Kiran Bhowmik hails this initiative as a "revolution" for Tripura's agriculture. "This app will empower farmers with knowledge and market access, ultimately leading to better yields, higher incomes, and a more sustainable agricultural ecosystem," he says.
Bhowmik also sees this as a prime example of IT-driven marketing intervention in the agriculture sector, empowering farmers with essential data for informed decision-making.
