Tripura CM Announces Drone Training for Rural Women to Boost Agriculture Sector
This initiative aligns with the state government's broader strategy to introduce modern technologies like drone technology and stone technology in the agriculture and agri-management sectors.
Tripura's rural women are gearing up to take the agriculture sector by storm with the latest technology training initiative announced by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. In a bid to boost agricultural productivity, the government is set to provide training to rural women in operating drones.
During the inauguration of the state’s inaugural National Skill Training Institute (Women), held virtually and attended by Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, CM Saha emphasized the importance of empowering rural women through technology. The training will equip them with the skills needed to operate drones for tasks like spraying fertilizers in fields, thereby enhancing efficiency in agricultural practices.

The institute, sprawling across 4.12 acres in Anandnagar, Agartala, aims to empower women through vocational training, enabling them for both wage employment and self-employment opportunities. In addition to drone technology, the institute plans to offer courses in Cosmetology, Dressmaking, and Secretarial practice in English under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).
This initiative aligns with the state government's broader strategy to introduce modern technologies like drone technology and stone technology in the agriculture and agri-management sectors. By encouraging the participation of rural women, the government aims to create a more inclusive and dynamic agricultural landscape.
The National Skill Training Institute (Women) is not just limited to drone technology but also offers courses in various fields like Catering and Hospitality, Computer Software Application, and Office Management under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS). Currently, the institute has 102 enrolled students with plans to admit an additional 200 to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals.
CM Saha reiterated his government's commitment to skill development and women empowerment, citing the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2022, as a strategic framework for gender equality and economic empowerment. This initiative signifies a significant step towards bridging the gender gap in the workforce while harnessing technology for agricultural advancement.
With rural women at the forefront of this training initiative, Tripura is poised to witness a transformative shift in its agriculture sector, paving the way for sustainable growth and prosperity. As the state continues to embrace innovation and inclusivity, the future looks promising for its rural communities.
