Tractor Sales in India Show Mild Growth of 0.22% in December 2023: Mahindra Leads Despite Decline
FADA's December 2023 report indicates a marginal 0.22% growth in tractor sales, with Mahindra & Mahindra leading despite a 4.19% decline.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) has recently released its retail sales report for the tractor industry in December 2023. The data reveals a modest 0.22 percent growth in retail tractor sales, with a total of 78,872 tractors sold during the month. This represents a slight increase compared to the 78,700 units sold in December 2022.

Brandwise Report:
Mahindra & Mahindra: It emerged as the leader in tractor sales, despite facing a decline of 4.19 per cent. The company sold 18,580 units in December 2023, down from 19,393 units in the same period the previous year. Mahindra's market share also slipped by 1.08 per cent to 23.56 per cent.
Swaraj Tractor: A division of Mahindra & Mahindra, Swaraj Tractor, showed a commendable growth of 11.26 per cent, selling 14,377 units in December 2023, compared to 12,922 units in December 2022.
Escorts Tractor: Escorts Tractor experienced a 5.06 per cent growth, selling 8,154 units in December 2023, compared to 7,761 units in December 2022.
Sonalika Tractor: Sonalika witnessed a significant growth of 16.48 per cent, selling 11,335 tractors in December 2023, up from 9,731 units in the same month the previous year.
Eicher Tractor: Eicher grew 12.32 per cent, selling 5,643 units in December 2023, compared to 5,024 units in December 2022.
TAFE: TAFE Limited saw a growth of 2.32 per cent, selling 8,056 tractors in December 2023, up from 7,873 units in December 2022.
John Deere Tractor: John Deere faced a decline of 19.59 percent, selling 5,232 units in December 2023, down from 6,507 units in December 2022.
New Holland Tractor: New Holland experienced a slight growth of 1.79 percent, selling 3,349 units in December 2023, compared to 3,290 units in December 2022.
VST Tillers and Tractors: VST Tillers and Tractors recorded a substantial decline of 37.53 percent, selling 288 units in December 2023, compared to 461 units in December 2022.
Kubota Tractor: Kubota Tractor registered a significant decline of 36.38 percent, selling 1,518 units in December 2023, down from 2,386 units in December 2022.
Captain Tractor: Captain Tractor demonstrated strong growth of 27.80 percent, selling 285 units in December 2023, up from 223 units in December 2022.

Other Brands:
A collective decline of 34.32 per cent was observed in the retail sales of other tractor brands, with 2,055 units sold in December 2023 compared to 3,129 units in December 2022. This resulted in a 1.38 per cent loss in market share for these brands.
In conclusion, while the overall growth in tractor sales remains modest, individual brands have displayed varying performances, with Mahindra & Mahindra continuing to lead the market despite a slight decline.
