Tamil Nadu Govt Distributes Power Tillers & Weeders to 5,000 Farmers to Boost Agricultural Mechanization
The Tamil Nadu government's commitment to promoting agricultural mechanization reflects its dedication to modernizing the agricultural sector, enhancing productivity, and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
In a bid to bolster agricultural productivity, reduce labor costs, and lower cultivation expenses, the Tamil Nadu government distributed power tillers and weeders worth 45.2 lakh to farmers during a recent function. The initiative is part of the state's concerted effort to promote the mechanization of agriculture and provide support to small and marginal farmers through subsidies.
The Department of Agricultural Engineering is overseeing the mechanization in agriculture program, which aims to enhance farmers' profitability in cultivation by boosting productivity. The formal inauguration of the distribution of power tillers and weeders to 5,000 farmers across the state took place via video conferencing, with Chief Minister M K Stalin leading the launch ceremony from Chennai.
During the event, K N Nehru, the Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, alongside School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, personally handed over the tillers and weeders to eligible farmers. However, an unexpected incident occurred during the distribution.

Minister K N Nehru reprimanded one of the beneficiaries, a resident of Pullambadi, for obtaining a power tiller shortly after receiving a tractor through a government scheme the previous year. He cautioned the individual against engaging in such practices in the future. This incident was captured on video and quickly gained traction on social media platforms.
Executive Engineer of the Agricultural Engineering Department, Kumara Ganesh, clarified that there was no violation of any rules or regulations in the beneficiary's case. The distribution of agricultural machinery and equipment is carried out following established guidelines to ensure fair and equitable access to these resources.
