TN Assembly Speaker Distributes Power Weeders & Tillers at Subsidized Cost to Empower Farmers
Farmers selected for this program are from the beneficiary villages of 'Kalaignar’s All Village Integrated Farm Development Scheme.' This strategic selection ensures that those who need mechanization support the most can benefit from this initiative.
In a bid to empower farmers and promote agricultural mechanization, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu took a significant step by handing over 77 power tillers and a power weeder at subsidized costs to 78 beneficiary farmers. The distribution event, held on Monday, aimed to bolster agricultural productivity and ease the challenges faced by agriculturists.
Under this program, women, small and marginal farmers, as well as Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers, are set to receive a frontend subsidy of ₹85,000 each, facilitating their access to essential mechanization equipment. Other farmers will receive a grant of ₹70,000 to support the purchase of power tillers and power weeders as part of the farm mechanization initiative. Hindu SC/ST marginal and small farmers will benefit from an additional subsidy of ₹34,000, further incentivizing the adoption of mechanization in agriculture.
Mr. Appavu emphasized the growing difficulty faced by agriculturists in finding labor for various farming operations such as planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting. To address this issue and ensure better income for farmers, the Tamil Nadu government is committed to mechanizing these tasks. Subsidized loans are being extended to farmers to assist them in adopting mechanization, thereby alleviating their challenges.
