Arun Singh, a farmer hailing from the Pelku Jot region near Siliguri, has embarked on a new agricultural journey, beginning his farming business into red ladies' finger cultivation. Over a four-acre expanse, Singh planted a mere 50 grams of seeds, leaving an indelible mark on the region by introducing this vibrant red variety for the very first time.

In contrast to traditional green vegetables, Singh holds high hopes for the profitability of his red ladies' finger cultivation. This vegetable offers a shorter cultivation period and greater cost-effectiveness. He is elated by the robust local demand for red ladies' fingers, which commands fetching prices in the market.

India is currently witnessing a major shift towards health-conscious farming practices, with crops like red ladies' fingers gaining popularity owing to their remarkable antioxidant and iron content.

This unique variety boasts an impressive composition, comprising approximately 94% polyunsaturated fat, known for its capacity to reduce bad cholesterol, alongside a sodium content of 66% that aids in combating high blood pressure. Furthermore, it serves as an effective remedy for iron deficiency and anemia, rendering it highly sought after and enabling it to command premium prices.

Agricultural expert Ashish Adhikari shed light on the farming revolution underway. It all began when a farmer pioneered Kerala red ladies' finger cultivation in Jalpaiguri, North Bengal. Following suit, Arun Singh initiated this groundbreaking practice in the Darjeeling district. This crop thrives without the need for chemical fertilizers, flourishing through entirely organic methods.

Ashish went on to highlight the evolving market dynamics, acknowledging a gradual surge in demand. While green ladies' finger typically fetches around Rs. 20 per kilogram, the red variant commands prices ranging from Rs. 40 to Rs. 45 per kilogram. Astonishingly, in certain locales, it can even reach an impressive range of Rs. 700 to 800 per kilogram.
