The state government of Goa has recently reconstituted and altered a 24-member committee to formulate a comprehensive agriculture policy for the region. Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik headed a committee that will suggest ways to improve farm productivity and increase income. The committee would consist of renowned scientists, educationists, cooperative society members, agriculturists, and several stakeholders. 

The newly reconstituted committee in Goa will play a crucial role in devising strategies to foster growth in agriculture, animal husbandry, and dairy sectors. Additionally, the committee aims to enhance the effectiveness of rural programs by integrating and consolidating various initiatives. By leveraging the available agricultural land resources, the committee intends to provide farmers with substantial returns on their investments. The primary focus lies in formulating a comprehensive agricultural policy that promotes the overall development and prosperity of these sectors, ultimately benefiting the farming community in Goa.

According to reports, the committee is to be functional for six months initially. The preliminary reports will be collected and submitted within 4 months from the date issued. Additionally, the committee has suggested various ways to develop agriculture which includes protecting available resources like water, land, biodiversity, and genetic resources.

The committee has gone beyond its primary mandate and put forth valuable recommendations to foster a market-driven economy in the agricultural sector. These recommendations encompass various measures aimed at encouraging the cultivation of horticulture and high-value crops, which have the potential to generate substantial returns for farmers.

Recognizing the importance of sustainable practices, the committee has also emphasized the need for measures to conserve soil and water resources, ensuring their long-term viability. Additionally, the committee has proposed the development of a robust market network, including the establishment of cold storage and the implementation of efficient post-harvest management chains. These measures collectively aim to enhance market access for farmers and facilitate the efficient storage and distribution of agricultural produce.

The committee has emphasized solutions to include public-private partnership ( PPP ) recommended resolutions which will be further approved by the government and agriculture policies will be implemented.
