Punjab's Bathinda- Agri Officials Deployed After Pink Bollworm Attack

Responding to pink bollworm infestation in Bathinda's cotton fields, Punjab's Agriculture Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, has directed four senior officials to be stationed in Muktsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, and Mansa until August 31. This move comes as the upcoming 15 days hold critical importance for the crop.

In response to the pink bollworm outbreak in Bathinda's cotton fields, Punjab's agriculture department has taken swift action. The department has deployed senior officials to stay in the cotton belt area until August 31, recognizing the critical importance of the next 15 days for the crop's well-being.

Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Punjab's agriculture and farmer's welfare minister, has proactively addressed the escalating pink bollworm issue in Bathinda. He has instructed four senior officers to establish temporary camps in Muktsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, and Mansa, with their presence mandated until August 31 due to the crop's vulnerability in this period.

Khudian emphasized that these officials will personally inspect the cotton fields, guiding farmers on effective preventive measures against pest attacks. In addition to field visits, the minister has urged agriculture department personnel to actively assist farmers and generate daily status reports.

The minister's directive extends to regulating the sale of pesticides. Officers are tasked with inspecting pesticide shops and manufacturing units, ensuring the quality and pricing of these essential products.

Punjab's cotton belt, encompassing eight districts including Bathinda, Mansa, Fazilka, and Muktsar, has been grappling with this pest crisis. Though not affected by floods, the region's moisture levels have contributed to the infestation, as noted by agricultural experts.

Amidst these challenges, Khudian also cautioned against deceptive marketing practices that bundle unnecessary products with pesticides and fertilizers, promising consequences for companies involved in such practices.
