Punjab Govt Awards Farmers for Not Burning Stubble, Encourages Sustainable Farming

In an effort to promote eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices while discouraging the burning of paddy stubble, the Punjab Government honored 11 farmers from various blocks of the district with the title of "Vatavaran De Rakhe" (Protectors of Environment). These farmers have set a commendable example by choosing not to burn paddy stubble.

The felicitation ceremony took place at the district administrative complex and was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh, who commended the farmers for their dedication to environmentally responsible practices. He highlighted the invaluable message they send by preserving the environment, maintaining soil fertility, and safeguarding beneficial insects. Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh also urged other farmers to draw inspiration from these eco-conscious agriculturalists.

Here are the names of farmers who received recognition for their sustainable practices:

Palwinder Singh from Alodipur village, Fuman Singh from Kala Sanghian village, Gurnam Singh from Bishanpur village, Pardeep Singh from Manak village in the Phagwara block, Gurmail Singh from Dhaliwal Bet village, Harjeet Singh of Saidpur block, Sultanpur Lodhi, Sarwan Singh from Nasirewal village, Sheetal Singh from Sandharjagir village, Surinder Singh from Bulaiwal village in the Nadala block, Sharandeep Singh from Dhaliwal, Dhilwan block, and Pargat Singh from Ibrahimwal village, Speaking about their experiences, the honored farmers emphasized that using machinery to manage stubble not only improved crop yields but also enhanced soil fertility.

Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh explained that the agriculture and farmer welfare departments have been actively conducting awareness campaigns throughout the district, benefiting local farmers. He encouraged all farmers to make use of agricultural machinery available under government subsidies to manage paddy stubble. By incorporating stubble into the fields, the harmful practice of burning it can be discouraged, leading to the preservation of the environment and soil fertility.

The Deputy Commissioner further emphasized that it is essential for farmers, cooperative societies, and farmer groups in the district to utilize machinery for paddy straw management and ensure its availability to other farmers on a priority basis. He also announced that more such farmers would be recognized for their eco-friendly efforts in the future.

Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Naresh Kumar Gulati revealed that these farmers were selected and awarded certificates under the Atma scheme based on the recommendations of all the blocks in the district. The event was attended by Kapurthala SDM Lal Biswas and Sultanpur Lodhi SDM Jaspreet Singh.

These awards serve as a testament to the dedication of Punjab's farmers towards sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices, highlighting the importance of preserving the state's natural resources and protecting the environment.
