Punjab Announces to Solarise 20,000 Agriculture Pumps
The move towards solarising agriculture pumps and government buildings aligns with Punjab's broader commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy adoption. By harnessing the power of the sun, the state aims to not only reduce its carbon footprint but also create a model for other regions to follow in the journey towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural sector.
In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape and promoting sustainability, Punjab Minister Aman Arora announced plans to solarise 20,000 agriculture pumps. This ambitious project, under the guidance of the New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister, seeks to decarbonize the farm sector by harnessing the power of solar energy.
Minister Arora emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices in agriculture and directed department officials to expedite the solarisation of agri-pump sets. The solar-powered pumps will not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions but will also be strategically allocated for sprinkle and drip irrigation in dark zones, thereby promoting water conservation.

During a meeting convened to review the progress of ongoing projects, Minister Arora underscored the significance of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology in the pursuit of renewable energy. He urged officials to ensure the swift implementation of equipping state government buildings with solar PV panels, reinforcing Punjab's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
"Solar PV has become the most preferred source of renewable power," stated Minister Arora, highlighting the growing global recognition of solar energy as a clean and reliable resource.
Amarpal Singh, the Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Energy Development Agency, provided updates on the initiative, revealing that 436 government buildings have been earmarked for the installation of solar PV panels. In the first phase of the project, 70 government buildings are set to be equipped with these panels, marking a significant stride towards a greener and more energy-efficient future.
