PMFBY: Registration for Rabi Plant Insurance; Beneficiaries can apply by 31 December

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) program was launched in India by the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, New Delhi from the 2016 Kharif season onwards.

The main purpose of the Prime Minister, Fasal Bima Yojana, is to assist farmers financially. Under this program farmers are compensated for the damage caused by floods, hurricanes, hail and heavy rains.

There are two Strategies under these Terms of Use mentioned.

  1. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
  2. Weather Based Crop Insurance (RWBCIS)

Coverage of crops:

  1. Food crops (Cereals, millet and Pulses),
  2. Oilseeds
  3. Commercial / Annual Yields.

Rabi insurance deadline:

Farmers can get Rabi crop insurance under PMFBY until 31 December 2021. The amount of crop insurance premiums is borne by the farmer and the government. The premium farmers' share is Rs. 453 crores and support from State / Central Govts RS.1909 Crores, Premium amount Rs.2362 Crores for 5 seasons together. While the claims of Kharif 18 and Rabbi 18 are still being considered, the National Insurance Company closed for the first 3 seasons with a total of Rs.1804 Crores collected from 35,22,616 farmers and claims worth Rs.1703 crores, of which 17,66,455 farmers benefited, indicating that about 50% of the insured farmers benefited.
