Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined forces with Grammy Award-winning Indian-American singer Falu to create a special song promoting the benefits of millets and their potential to combat world hunger. Titled "Abundance in Millets," the song will be performed by Falu and her husband, Gaurav Shah, and is set to release on June 16 across various streaming platforms.

The year 2023 has been designated as the "International Year of Millets" following a proposal brought forward by India and endorsed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Governing Bodies of the United Nations, as well as the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly.

In an interview, Falu revealed that Prime Minister Modi had collaborated with her and her husband to write the song. The track, which will be available in both English and Hindi, aims to highlight the power of millets and will be accessible to a wide audience.

"On June 16, 2023, Falu and Gaurav Shah will launch their song 'Abundance in Millets' with the special participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The release is in commemoration of the International Year of Millets. 'Abundance in Millets' was created to raise awareness about this super grain as a potential solution to global hunger," stated Falu's website.

Falu shared that the idea for the song came to her during a meeting with Modi in New Delhi last year following her Grammy win. The prime minister suggested they collaborate on a song with a message focused on ending hunger, recognizing the power of music to effect positive change.

Given the universal appeal of music, Modi proposed creating a song about millets, as India promotes them for their exceptional nutritional and health benefits. Falu candidly asked if Modi would write the song with her, and he agreed.

"We have collaborated on the song, which will be released as a single on June 16, with worldwide availability on all streaming platforms," Falu confirmed.

The song will be released in Hindi and English initially, but translations into regional languages are planned to ensure broad accessibility.

Falu admitted to initially feeling nervous about writing a song with the prime minister, but the collaboration unfolded organically. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with Modi on the millets song, considering it a lifetime achievement for any artist.

The New York-based artist emphasized that the song's purpose is to promote millets and support farmers in increasing production to combat hunger globally.

"What better way to convey the message that we can solve hunger issues in the world than through a song and music?" Falu remarked. "If we can supply the world with millets, an easily cultivated grain, it can genuinely help eradicate hunger, uplift farmers, and support local and smaller farms."

Millets have been cultivated in India for centuries, with evidence of their consumption dating back to the Indus Valley civilization. Today, these grains are grown in over 130 countries and are considered a staple food for over half a billion people across Asia and Africa.
