In a bid to contribute to the government's mission of self-sufficiency in edible oils and support farmers across the country, Patanjali, under its 'Mission Palm Plantation,' aims to connect with 5 lakh farmers, according to Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. Speaking at a press conference held at the Palm Plantation Farm and Nursery, Baba Ramdev revealed that Patanjali has already planted 1 crore palm saplings and plans to extend the plantation to 15-20 lakh acres in the next five years.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Baba Ramdev emphasized that the extensive palm plantation program undertaken by Patanjali Foods would soon become one of the largest and most sustainable agricultural projects in the country. Currently, approximately 40,000 farmers are associated with Patanjali in the 'Mission Palm Plantation,' with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency in edible oils.

Patanjali has positioned itself as the largest player in the palm plantation business in India, with an allocated area of 0.6 million hectares and a planted area of 64,000 hectares. Over the next five years, the company envisions scaling up the plantation area to 0.4 million hectares, supporting the government's vision of Atmanirbharta.

To facilitate the expansion of this ambitious project, Patanjali has entered into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 12 state governments under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This strategic collaboration will enable Patanjali to maintain an asset-light business model while enjoying sustainable high margins. The investments made in this venture over the next five years are expected to yield significant long-term benefits for the company.

Baba Ramdev also shared details about the company's existing palm oil mills, with five operational mills located in Andhra Pradesh. With a current capacity of 0.94 million metric tonnes (mt), Patanjali plans to ramp it up to 2.27 million mt through the establishment of new facilities in a phased manner.

Additionally, Patanjali intends to expand its nurseries from 26 to 197 across India over the next five years. To support this expansion, the company will increase its imports of palm sprouts from the current 4.6 million to over 62 million by the end of the fifth year.

By connecting with more farmers, expanding the plantation area, and increasing its processing capacity, Patanjali aims to play a significant role in ensuring self-sufficiency in edible oils and empowering farmers across the nation. The 'Mission Palm Plantation' stands as a testament to Patanjali's commitment to sustainable agriculture and its vision for a prosperous and self-reliant India.
