Ministry Of Agriculture Signs MoU With Digital Green To Develop National Level Digital Platform

Recently an MoU was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare with Digital Green in New Delhi under a public-private partnership framework that aimed at building a national-level digital extension platform. This platform aimed at creating a digital library consisting of multilingual multiformat content, thus helping the extension workers access more information on the ongoing trends in agriculture. This will also enhance their skills and will encourage farmers to extend their networks in several fields related to livestock, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, etc.

Ministry’s Secretary Manoj Ahuja also said that “The proposed national digital platform will help make our extension system more efficient and effective by connecting farmers to the strong foundation of the digital agriculture ecosystem that is being built by the government” . 

The Ministry of Agriculture has also said that there are over two lakh extension workers if focused can help to boost the economy more efficiently. Ahuja also added that this digital platform will serve as a component of digital public infrastructure for agriculture.

Riki Gandhi The founder of Digital Green believes that technology and its modifications should be able to create a positive impact on farmers' livelihood and he also said that it is an excellent opportunity for him to be a key stakeholder in this initiative.

Further, it was announced that the platform would be created and launched within six months to serve the whole farming community and catalyze the different Ag-Tech industries with newer and higher value propositions.

Digital Green which is a social enterprise collaboration with the Ministry Of Agriculture has also served primarily over 25 lakh farmers which have set strong working track records. If more investments are being contributed, digitalization will change the dimension of the agriculture sector. The proposed platform will contribute to and complement the national systems, serving as a digital public good for the farm sector in India.
