Millet Based Dishes To Be Served In The Meals Of CAPFs And NDRF
Millets are drought-resistant, energy-dense, require lower water, and are easy to grow in arid soils and hilly terrain. Millets are an excellent source of protein, micronutrients such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, and phytochemicals, which boost the nutritional profile of the soldier's diet.
The Union Home Ministry has announced that 30% of the meals served to Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel will now include millets. The decision was made after discussions with all the forces and under the directive of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The move was made in recognition of the importance of millets, which provide nutritious, gluten-free, and fibre-rich food that is beneficial for both farmers and the environment.
2023 was declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Millets, which recognizes the importance of millets in providing food security and better nutrition. The Home Ministry's decision to introduce millets into the CAPF and NDRF meals will help to create a global demand for millets and promote their nutritional value.
