After observing the mechanized paddy re-planting near Srivaikundam on Tuesday, Drs. Senthil Raj said the shortage of farm hands and the availability of more land in the short term encouraged farmers to rely on mechanical paddy re-planting.

Collector K. Senthil Raj urged farmers to switch to paddy re-planting as it would save ₹ 3,600 per hectare.

After observing the mechanized paddy re-planting near Srivaikundam on Tuesday, Drs. Senthil Raj said the shortage of farm hands and the availability of more land in the short term encouraged farmers to rely on mechanical paddy re-planting. As this method will be useful to farmers following the rice intensification program, it will save farmers ₹ 3,600 per hectare.

“Although mechanical paddy planting costs ₹ 4,500 per hectare, it can be as much as ₹ 5,500 on farm people. In addition to seed conservation, the use of ‘cono weeder,’ used by the farmer, ensures a significant savings of ₹ 2,000 to farmers as machinery restricts the use of 12 farm hands for planting. Therefore, paddy farmers should switch to paddy farming mechanically,”said Dr. Senthil Raj.
