Ludhiana Welcomes 'Drone Didis' for Agricultural Boost Under NAMO Drone Didi Initiative
Under this scheme, these four women from different parts of Ludhiana have been provided with comprehensive training by IFFCO, a leading cooperative in the agricultural sector.
In Ludhiana, four determined women have taken flight with a groundbreaking initiative empowering them to revolutionize agricultural practices. Aptly named 'Drone Didis', these women have been equipped with drones as part of a visionary scheme unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative, known as NAMO Drone Didi, aims to provide drones to 15,000 women self-help groups (SHGs) nationwide.
Under this scheme, these four women from different parts of Ludhiana have been provided with comprehensive training by IFFCO, a leading cooperative in the agricultural sector. Each drone system, comprising an electrical vehicle and generator, has been provided to them free of cost, a significant boost to their endeavours.
The project is not just about technology; it's about empowerment. Arming these women with drones, the initiative seeks to enhance their self-confidence and active participation in modern agricultural methods. The Deputy Commissioner, in congratulating the recipients, highlighted the potential of economically empowered women to contribute to the development of the state and the nation.
The significance of this initiative extends beyond individual empowerment. These 'Drone Didis' are poised to bring about tangible improvements in agricultural productivity and sustainability. By utilizing drones for spraying nano urea and nano DAP, they aim to achieve higher crop yields while minimizing environmental impact. With the efficiency of drones, spraying on one-acre areas can now be completed within a mere seven minutes, a feat that promises to revolutionize farming practices.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to promote women's empowerment in agriculture, spearheaded by organizations like HDFC Bank Parivartan and GT Bharat in collaboration with IFFCO. The project, known as the STREE Project, seeks to not only transform agricultural methods but also empower women to take centre stage in this crucial sector.

The journey towards becoming 'Drone Didis' has been rigorous yet rewarding for these women. They underwent comprehensive training sessions conducted by IFFCO, equipping them with the necessary skills to handle and operate drone technology effectively. Additionally, they received on-farm training in operational techniques, further enhancing their proficiency in utilizing drones for agricultural purposes.
As these 'Drone Didis' take flight, they represent a technological advancement and a symbol of women's empowerment and progress. Their journey is a testament to the transformative power of initiatives that invest in women and their potential to drive change in traditionally male-dominated sectors like agriculture. With their drones in hand, these women are poised to soar to new heights, contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive agricultural landscape.
