Krishi Mela 2023 Draws 15.6 Lakh Visitors, Generates Wallet Share of ₹5 Cr Despite Drought

The Krishi Mela 2023 in Karnataka was a resounding success, with 15.6 lakh visitors despite the prevailing drought conditions. The event's theme focused on farming in drought conditions and resonated well with the agricultural community.  The prominent four-day farming exposition was held in Karnataka and concluded on November 20. The event showcased resilience and garnered a substantial wallet share of ₹5 crore.

S.V. Suresha, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), was pleased with the response from the farming community. The event was held at the Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra (GKVK) campus and attracted farmers who purchased seeds, plants, millets, poultry items, ornamental fish, and various farming, harvesting, and irrigation equipment. 

Notably, small and medium-sized farmers displayed a keen interest in adopting innovative farming and harvesting machinery to alleviate the challenges associated with agriculture. The attendance at this year's event was slightly lower than in previous years, but Dr. Suresha noted that the response was still impressive, especially considering the drought.

A key aspect of Krishi Mela 2023 was the recognition and cash awards presented to 150 farmers from 10 districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikbalapur, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Hassan, Tumkur, Chamarajapet, and Ramanagara (under UAS-B). These farmers were honored for their outstanding contributions and best practices in farming. Recognition extended to one young male and one female farmer from each taluk and district.

Dr. Suresha highlighted that a significant number of farmers explored the crop museum at Krishi Mela, gaining insights into diverse agricultural technologies supported by on-the-field experience.  The Krishi Mela 2023 served as a platform for knowledge exchange and showcased the agricultural resilience of the community. The farmers' eagerness to adopt innovative farming practices was evident throughout the event.
