Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy revealed plans to reintroduce the 'Krishi Honda' program, aimed at enhancing groundwater and rainwater conservation. Underlining the significance of sustainable crop choices during periods of low rainfall, he highlighted the role of interventions in raising groundwater levels.

The initiative, which offers financial support for pond creation, is on track for a potential comeback.

Speaking at the "Millet's Mela" and "Bellada Parishe" inauguration in Mandya on August 28, the Minister expressed Mandya's pride in having its MLA assume the role of Agriculture Minister for the first time.

The surging global interest in millets, driven by their health benefits, has led to their designation as the International Year of Millets in 2023. Farmers are urged to capitalize on government backing to promote these grains. Encouraging the addition of value and branding, he highlighted millet's capacity to enhance farmer's financial prospects.

The event also saw addresses by Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji and MLA Ravikumar. Ravikumar emphasized the necessity of a stable market to encourage millet cultivation. He also proposed support for traditional jaggery production units grappling with Pollution Board NoC issues. The discussion extended to the establishment of a new sugar factory in Mandya.

Former Minister P.M. Narendraswamy championed the expansion of organic farming. The occasion encompassed the honoring of progressive farmers and an impactful millets exhibition. Delicacies made from jaggery at the 'Bellada Parishe' event provided an added attraction.
