Karnataka Approves Ambitious Farm Mechanisation Plan with 100 Harvester Hubs
The 100 harvester hubs, a key component of the farm mechanisation plan, are poised to revolutionize the farming landscape in Karnataka. These hubs will serve as centralized points equipped with advanced agricultural machinery, providing farmers with access to state-of-the-art harvesters, tractors, and other mechanized tools.
In a significant move towards bolstering agricultural infrastructure and addressing the challenges faced by farmers, Karnataka's Cabinet, led by Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy, has given the green light to establish 100 harvester hubs as part of an extensive farm mechanisation initiative. Additionally, the state has allocated ₹200 crores for projects under the Krishi Bhagya program, marking a substantial investment in the modernization of agriculture.
Minister Cheluvarayaswamy made this announcement on Saturday, November 11, during the launch of a watershed program and the distribution of benefits to farmers at Devara Mallanayakanahalli village in Nagamangala taluk, Mandya. The move is expected to significantly enhance farm mechanisation and propel the agricultural sector towards greater efficiency and productivity.
This strategic approach aims to reduce the dependency on traditional farming methods, ultimately increasing yields and improving the livelihoods of farmers.
In addition to the harvester hubs, the ₹200 crore projects under Krishi Bhagya will further contribute to the modernization of farming practices. The investment is expected to facilitate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing the overall resilience of the farming community.
Minister Cheluvarayaswamy acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers, particularly in the wake of drought conditions affecting 223 taluks in the state. A staggering ₹17,000 crores in drought relief has been sought from the Centre, with the Minister expressing concern over the lack of response to the state's appeal for assistance.

To address the immediate needs of farmers, the state government has sanctioned ₹1,500 crores in insurance coverage, with ₹200 crores already disbursed to farmers. This financial support is a crucial step towards safeguarding the well-being of the farming community.
Farmers attending the event in Nagamangala taluk received nearly 80 percent subsidy under various schemes, emphasizing the government's commitment to economic development through watershed programs. The announcement of measures to repair canals supplying water from the Hemavathy dam in Hassan district further underscores the comprehensive approach to agricultural development.
As Karnataka takes bold strides towards farm mechanisation, these initiatives are not only poised to transform agriculture in the state but also serve as a model for sustainable and technologically advanced farming practices nationwide. The government's commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring the economic stability of rural communities is evident in these proactive measures.
