Karnataka Agriculture Allocates Rs 235 Cr, Govt Investment Aims for Improved Yields & Income

The Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ms. Shobha Karandlaje, has announced Rs.235.14 crore released as the third installment under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for the state. This supplemental funding is earmarked for the implementation of the Soil Health Card (Rs.12.00 crores), SMAM (Rs.120 crores), and RKVY - DPR (Rs.46.65 crores). An additional allocation of Rs.178.65 crore earlier this year has been done, bringing thetotal central government support to Rs.761.89 crore for 2023-24.

The funding has been actively being used to support various initiatives that directly benefit farmers. This includes building vital infrastructure and boosting efficiency with modern tools like Tractors, power tillers, and even drones that are being procured to help farmers. It also includes promoting sustainable practices like integrated farming, soil health initiatives, and custom hiring centers are all getting a boost, leading to long-term benefits for both farmers and the environment.

This substantial financial injection is destined to fortify various components under the RKVY scheme in Karnataka. These include Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana - RKVY (DPR), Soil Health and Fertility, Rainfed Area Development, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, Sub Mission on Agriculture Mechanization, Per Drop More Crop, Agro-Forestry, and Crop Diversification Programme.

On 15th January 2024, the government approved the procurement of Bengal Gram (Channa) at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs.5440 per quintal, with a maximum quantity set at 1,39,740 MTs for the Rabi 2023-24 season. This ensures farmers receive a fair price for their harvest, providing much-needed income stability.

Ms. Shobha Karandlaje emphasized that the allocated funds will be utilized for enhancing agricultural infrastructure. The focus areas encompass the construction of godowns, water harvesting structures, primary demonstration units, etc. This investment will empower farmers with better tools, infrastructure, and knowledge, ultimately leading to improved yields, increased income, and a more sustainable future for agriculture in the state.
