John Deere India has shipped fully assembled tractors from its India manufacturing facility to the United States, Japan, Germany, and other European countries.

In order to take leverage of the production and supply base in India during the Covid-19 pandemic, John Deere relocated a line to produce the 5M range of its high-end, higher horsepower tractors there.

According to Shailendra Jagtap, Managing Director and Country Manager, India, John Deere, the company exported tractors made in India to 110 countries, with the 5M being the most recent series to leave the country. These tractors have a power range of 75-130 HP and are designed solely for export markets. Currently, the company exports approximately 35% of its total output.

In addition, with a 4,400-strong team in Pune and Bengaluru, John Deere India develops products and provides engineering and IT support to global operations.

The company will keep investing and utilizing manufacturing, talent, and India's supply chain to serve farmers in India and around the world, with development anticipated in both the local and export sectors, according to Mukul Varshney, region 1 director (corporate affairs).

John Deere India, a subsidiary of John Deere Singapore (a division of Deere & Company), recently celebrated its 25th anniversary in India. The company is headquartered in Pune, with plants in Sanaswadi, near Pune, capable of producing 72,000 tractors, and Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, capable of producing 60,000 units of the 5000 Series of tractors in India.

The country's total tractor sales in FY23 are expected to be 900,000 units, and FY24 is expected to be similar, but this will depend on the monsoon, according to Jagtap.
