Itanagar- Himalayan University Empowers Karsingsa Farmers with Soil Fertility and Crop Productivity Insights
The Agriculture Department at HU highlighted the crucial link between soil fertility and crop productivity briefing the fundamental relationship between the two essential elements in farming, in the event.
In a recent initiative, the Agriculture Department at Himalayan University (HU) conducted an enlightening program for farmers in Karsingsa village, Itanagar, with a focus on 'Soil Fertility and Productivity.' The event, held on Wednesday, aimed to empower local farmers with knowledge and tools to enhance their agricultural practices.
Dr. Raja Husain, Head of the Agriculture Department at HU, stressed the pivotal connection between soil fertility and crop yields. He introduced farmers to methods for sustaining soil fertility and provided insights into modern crop production techniques. Dr. Husain also shed light on the available government schemes designed to benefit farmers. Another esteemed member of the HU team, Dr. Sonbeer Chack, shared expertise on horticultural crop production, emphasizing post-harvest management.

Dr. Kasinam Doruk, an assistant professor at HU, delivered an informative session on soil types, soil health management, and the art of composting and vermicomposting. This valuable knowledge equips farmers with sustainable farming practices.
Additionally, Dr. Lipi Rina conducted a hands-on session demonstrating the treatment of seeds with biofertilizers, a key aspect of modern agriculture.
Papum Pare Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Subject Matter Specialist, Tadang Meena, enlightened the audience about millet production techniques, specifically focusing on Ragi and Foxtail millets. During the program, the HU team addressed queries from more than 25 farmers, providing valuable insights and guidance.

The event concluded with Karsingsa Village Head, Kipa Yama, expressing gratitude and extending an invitation for the HU team to return for further updates on new crop production technologies. In a bid to support local farmers, crop seeds and biofertilizers were distributed, indicating HU's commitment to enhancing agricultural practices in the region.
