LIVE UPDATE
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) unveiled a fresh video showcasing the Chandrayaan-3 Rover descending gracefully from the Lander to the Lunar surface. Earlier, ISRO also shared an image capturing the Chandrayaan-3 Lander settled on the moon's terrain, photographed by the Orbiter High-Resolution Camera of Chandrayaan-2.
ISRO made history with the successful soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon's surface on Wednesday evening. The Vikram lander accomplished the gentle touchdown at 6:04 pm IST. This achievement marked India as the first nation to achieve a spacecraft landing in close proximity to the lunar south pole and the fourth globally to achieve a soft landing on the Moon, following the United States, the Soviet Union, and China. The day after the landing, ISRO confirmed the normal functioning of all Chandrayaan-3 systems and the seamless progress of scheduled activities.

In a monumental achievement for India's space program, the Vikram lander of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission has successfully touched down on the Moon's surface, making India the fourth nation to accomplish this remarkable feat. The live updates on this historic event unfolded with anticipation and excitement.

The Lander Module (LM) of Chandrayaan-3 had been maneuvering its way toward the lunar surface, maintaining an altitude of over 150 meters. With each passing second, the altitude steadily decreased as the lander edged closer to its intended touchdown point.
At approximately 6:04 p.m., Vikram, the lander for Chandrayaan-3, safely made contact with the Moon's surface. The altitude phase transitioned seamlessly, propelling the mission into the next crucial phase. The onboard sensors exhibited flawless performance, ensuring a smooth progression of the mission.
During the critical final moments before touchdown, the lander's altitude experienced an 800-meter reduction in a mere three minutes. Both horizontal and vertical velocities were meticulously slowed down to zero, a precision achievement that highlighted the prowess of ISRO's engineering and technical teams.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the ISRO team virtually from South Africa to witness this historic event. Expressing his enthusiasm, he emphasized the significance of the achievement for India's progress and national pride. "When we witness such historical moments before our eyes, our lives achieve a sense of accomplishment. It is a defining moment for the new India," Modi stated. He further noted that this achievement symbolizes the collective heartbeat of the nation and instills newfound energy and trust in the country's capabilities.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission marks a remarkable step forward in space exploration with a soft landing, which poses unique challenges due to the Moon's lack of atmosphere. The necessity to decelerate without atmospheric assistance underscores the complexity of the mission. To overcome these challenges, systems were designed to detect variations in local gravity and navigate through potential communication shadows.
The successful landing of Vikram on the lunar surface stands as a testament to India's dedication to technological advancements and its significant strides in space exploration. This achievement is expected to resonate as a source of inspiration for generations to come, bolstering the nation's scientific ambitions and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of exploration.
As the country celebrates this historic achievement, the Chandrayaan-3 mission continues to pave the way for further exploration and understanding of the Moon and the universe beyond.
