India's Food Sector Sees Remarkable Growth and Investment Inflow at World Food India 2023 Event
The 'World Food India 2023' event aims to position India as the "food basket of the world" and celebrate the International Year of Millets. It provides a platform for government bodies, industry professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to engage in discussions, establish partnerships, and explore investment opportunities in the agri-food sector.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the inaugural session of the second edition of the 'World Food India 2023' event in the national capital, highlighted India's rapidly growing food sector, emphasizing the country's investor-friendly policies and the surge in demand for packaged food products. The Prime Minister also applauded the remarkable 50,000 crore Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow into the food processing sector over the past nine years.
India's food processing industry has witnessed substantial growth in every aspect, showcasing its immense potential and diversity, which Prime Minister Modi referred to as a "dividend for global investors." He underlined the significance of India's sustainable food culture, rooted in Ayurveda and thousands of years of tradition. The Prime Minister specifically praised the role of women in leading the food processing industry.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi drew attention to 2023 being declared as the International Year of Millets and stressed the importance of these grains in the country's "superfood bucket." He further advocated for the adoption of measures to mitigate food wastage, emphasizing that minimizing wastage is a crucial step towards a sustainable lifestyle.

"Our products should be designed to minimize wastage," the Prime Minister stated while addressing the event, which saw the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Pashupati Kumar Paras, Prahlad Singh Patel, and Parshottam Rupala.

With participants from over 80 countries, including CEOs of prominent food processing companies, the event offers a diverse and global perspective on the food industry. It includes a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet, featuring over 1,200 overseas buyers from more than 80 countries. The Netherlands serves as the partner country, and Japan takes the spotlight as the focus country.
The 'World Food India 2023' event serves as a testament to India's growth in the food sector, its commitment to sustainability, and its eagerness to engage with the global food industry on various levels, from investment to technological innovation.
