IMD Forecast: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Multiple States Until August 8

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a concerning forecast, anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple regions of the country until the 7th of August. The states earmarked for particularly intense downpours include East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is predicted for Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, East Rajasthan, Jammu, and Madhya Pradesh.

In the nation's capital, Delhi, and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR), including Noida, heavy rainfall has already been witnessed, leading to waterlogging near the Badarpur metro station.

Maharashtra is expected to see moderate rainfall in most places in North Konkan, while South Konkan-Goa will likely experience light to moderate rain. Additionally, light to moderate rain is forecasted for many areas in North Madhya Maharashtra, a few spots in South Madhya Maharashtra, and isolated regions in Marathwada.

Himachal Pradesh has been issued a yellow alert by the IMD for the next 4-5 days, with moderate rainfall predicted for the upcoming 48 hours. The intensity of the rain is expected to decrease after August 6. So far, the state has witnessed 70 percent of its total monsoon rain between June 1 and August 4. Landslides and flash floods remain a significant concern, particularly in districts like Sirmaur, Solan, and Shimla, according to Surender Paul, Head of IMD Himachal Pradesh.

In the hill state, rain-related incidents and road accidents have tragically claimed 200 lives since the onset of the monsoon on June 24. Additionally, 238 individuals have been injured, while 32 remain missing, according to data provided by the central authorities.

In Odisha, heavy rains over the past few days triggered flooding, affecting over four lakh people in 21 districts. However, the situation seems to be under control as river water levels are receding due to the absence of further rainfall. Around 2,329 houses suffered damage due to the rains and floods, and approximately 52,000 individuals were evacuated from low-lying areas, as reported by the Odisha government. Tragically, the rains have led to two fatalities in the state.

As the monsoon continues its course, authorities and citizens alike are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety in the face of these weather challenges.
