ICAR Inaugurates Interstate Training Programme on Organic Farming, to Equip Bihar Farmers
The training programme aspires to empower farmers with cutting-edge knowledge and techniques in organic farming, enabling them to make informed decisions about sustainable agriculture and resource management.
An intensive five-day collaborative interstate exposure visit cum training programme on Organic Farming of Important Crops was inaugurated today at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Gangtok. This training programme served as a crucial step towards building a resilient agricultural sector that promotes sustainable development, protects natural resources, and contributes to a healthier and greener future for all.
The training, organized in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA)-Supaul and sponsored by the Government of Bihar, aims to equip progressive farmers from Vaishali, Bihar, with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
Commencing from May 18 to May 22, 2023, the training program will cover various aspects of organic farming, including agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry. Participants will engage in a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical awareness sessions, interactive farm visits, and practical demonstrations. The focal point of the training will revolve around employing efficient techniques to optimize natural resources and enhance crop and animal productivity, particularly in the challenging terrain of hilly organic regions.
With a total of 12 participants enrolled in the program, Dr Ramgopal Laha, Joint Director, inaugurated the training programme, delivering a keynote address that emphasized the importance of an integrated organic farming system. Dr Laha also shed light on organic vegetable production technology and the significance of natural resource management within mountainous ecosystems. Stressing the significance of the training, Dr Shaon Kumar Das, Senior Scientist in Soil Science and Training Nodal Officer, highlighted the critical role of organic sources of nutrients in maintaining soil health and bolstering the productivity of the existing organic production system.
Mr Sahoo, Deputy Project Director of ATMA-Vaishali, underlined the importance of organic farming in the present scenario, reinforcing the need to adopt sustainable agricultural practices to ensure long-term environmental and economic viability.
