ICAR Concludes 10-Day Course on Agricultural Technology for Doubling Northeast Farmers' Income
A total of 15 participants from states including Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh actively participated in the course, reflecting its broad regional outreach and impact.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North-Eastern Hills (NEH), Medziphema, successfully wrapped up a ten-day course to bolster agricultural productivity and foster entrepreneurship in the Northeast region. The course, "Technology Smart Agricultural Interventions for Doubling Farmers’ Income and Entrepreneurship Development in NEH Region: Strategies and Approaches," concluded on February 7, 2024.
According to a press release issued by ICAR Medziphema, the course was inaugurated with the primary objective of disseminating crucial knowledge and formulating effective strategies to enhance agricultural productivity and promote entrepreneurship in the Northeast. Dr. Mahak Singh, a scientist and the course coordinator, highlighted that the event comprehensively covered various topics critical to the agricultural sector.
Throughout the course, a total of 35 lectures were delivered both physically and online by scientists from various ICAR institutes across the country, including ICAR-IARI, ICAR-NBPGR, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, ICAR-IVRI, ICAR-CSSRI, CAU, and ICAR research complex for NEH region, among others. These lectures provided invaluable insights into cutting-edge agricultural practices and innovations.

In addition to the lectures, the course also organized field visits to Mithun farms, ICAR Nagaland Centre farms, and villages such as Khonoma and Moava. These visits offered participants practical exposure to agricultural practices and allied innovations, further enriching their learning experience.

The event culminated with the release of a comprehensive training manual and the distribution of participation certificates. The ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Dr Girish Patil, Director of the National Research Centre on Mithun (NRC), Dr I. Shakuntala, Dean of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, and Dr H. Kalita, Head of the Regional Centre, ICAR Nagaland Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Girish Patil emphasized the importance of adopting modern agricultural technologies to improve farm productivity and income generation in the Northeast. He commended the efforts of ICAR Medziphema in organizing such a timely and impactful course.
