The Himachal Pradesh government has announced its intention to collaborate with the Union Government for the "Aroma Mission," which involves the cultivation of lavender.

This initiative has been successful in Jammu and Kashmir and has proven to be beneficial for farmers. The cultivation of lavender, also known as the purple revolution, has the potential to become a profitable option for farmers in Himachal Pradesh, ultimately transforming their livelihoods.

The government spokesperson stated that due to the similar climatic conditions in several regions of Himachal Pradesh, such as Chamba, the state government intends to replicate the success of this initiative on a larger scale.

As per a spokesperson, the government intends to embrace contemporary and scientific approaches to farming, replacing conventional methods.

According to the spokesperson, “To achieve this goal, the government seeks technical assistance from the Centre, which will conduct orientation programs and training camps, and provide technical support to farmers and horticulturists. This assistance will enable them to become acquainted with advanced farming technologies, enhance the quality of their produce, and increase their revenue.”

The Ministry of Science & Technology has initiated the Purple Revolution, also known as the Lavender Revolution, which seeks to boost the local agro-economy by promoting the cultivation of aromatic crops through the aroma mission of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The mission aims to improve farmers' income and encourage the commercial production of lavender.
