The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated rain and thunderstorm activity in several central and western Indian states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Jharkhand, until March 7.
According to the data of the Indian Meteorological Department, India's maximum temperature for February was 29.54°c against the normal of 27.80°c, this is the highest maximum temperature country has ever experienced since proper meteorological record-keeping began in 1901.
In Maharashtra, a trough at lower tropospheric levels running from south Konkan to central Chhattisgarh is expected to cause thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall until March 9. According to an IMD official, the rain comes at a time when average maximum temperatures have been higher than usual throughout February, reaching 29.5 degrees Celsius.
From March 9 to 11, Delhi will experience maximum temperatures between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures around 14 degrees Celsius. There will be no rain until March 11.
Gujarat's north and south are expected to receive light rain over the next four days, with some districts already receiving light rain on Saturday. The rainfall was caused by a 1.5-kilometer-high induced cyclonic circulation that had shifted towards north Gujarat and southwest Rajasthan, according to the IMD.
After a long period of dry weather, Jharkhand is expected to see scattered rain beginning March 8. The pre-monsoon showers, or precipitation that falls between March and May, are expected to last until March 10. Thunderstorms and wind gusts of 30-40 kph are possible in some areas of the state on March 8, the day of the Holi festival. According to an IMD official, rain could fall in the northeast, south, and central parts of the state on March 9 and 10, lowering temperatures by one to two degrees Celsius.
