Harvest Plus Solutions and Yara India Partner to Establish Nutri-Farms in India
Harvest Plus Solutions and Yara India have joined forces to establish Nutri-Farms in India, beginning with 500 farmers in Uttar Pradesh. The collaboration aims to enhance farm productivity, improve food quality, and promote sustainable farming practices for a resilient future.
Harvest Plus Solutions (HPS) and Yara India, a subsidiary of Yara International, a global crop nutrition company, have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a project that aims to establish Nutri-Farms with Smallholder Farmers in India. The project will initially focus on integrating 500 farmers in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh into the Zinc Wheat value chain.
The project aims to evaluate the feasibility, effectiveness, and impact of using biofortified seeds and capacity strengthening of farmers in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), including efficient nutrient management. This strategy seeks to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen the ability of farmers to withstand challenges related to food and nutrition security.
The initiative will additionally enable farmers to link with pertinent markets, providing them with access to enterprises within the biofortified value chain. This will contribute to improved food quality and positively impact the income and livelihoods of farmers. Additionally, the project will promote collaboration with public sector stakeholders to create an enabling environment for the adoption of nutrition-smart agricultural techniques.
