Government Procures 7,07,968 Metric Tonnes of Paddy, Disburses Rs 507 Crore to Farmers

In a significant boost to the agricultural sector, the procurement of paddy in the district has gained momentum, with a total of 7,07,968 metric tonnes (MT) of crops arriving in grain markets. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Amritsar Ghanshyam Thori announced this development today and highlighted that the government had disbursed a substantial sum of Rs 507.72 crore among farmers for their paddy.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the progress and emphasized that all government procurement agencies had been actively engaged in the procurement process, ensuring that farmers receive their dues promptly. The procurement operation has provided essential support to the local farming community during this crucial period.
Out of the total paddy produce that arrived in grain markets, 2,54,859 MT consisted of parmal, while a substantial 4,53,109 MT was high-quality basmati crop. This diversity in the paddy varieties reflects the agricultural richness of the region.
As the procurement process continues to unfold, it is important to note that six percent of the total paddy has already been lifted from the markets, underlining the efficient execution of this vital agricultural initiative.
