As the world gears up to celebrate International Women's Day, Godrej Agrovet takes a bold step towards empowering women in the agriculture sector. Despite the prevailing notion that agriculture is predominantly male, recent data from India paints a different picture. It reveals that a staggering 86.1 million women, constituting 60% of all female workers in the country, are actively involved in agriculture.

In rural India, where agriculture is the backbone of livelihoods, 84% of women depend on it for sustenance. However, women remain outnumbered by men in agri-businesses, highlighting the need for concerted efforts to bridge this gap.

Recognizing the pivotal role women play in agriculture and agri-businesses, Godrej Agrovet, in collaboration with the Agriculture Skill Council of India and the Future Agriculture Leaders of India, has embarked on a mission to train and empower 100,000 women in the sector. This initiative aims not only to provide better employment opportunities but also to uplift women economically.

Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet, emphasized the urgency of creating an ecosystem that fosters the advancement of women in both farm fields and agri-businesses. He underlined the significance of recognizing and harnessing the potential of women in driving sustainable development.

Mallika Mutreja, Head of Human Resources at Godrej Agrovet, highlighted the importance of feminization in agriculture. She emphasized that incorporating the best practices and addressing structural inequalities are essential steps for the industry to realize the contributions of women farmers fully.
