Former Swiggy Executive Kedar Gokhale Launches Agritech Startup Orbit Farming for Farmers
This agritech startup aims to bridge the gap between traditional farming methods and modern, technology-driven solutions.
Kedar Gokhale, the former vice-president of operations at Swiggy, has embarked on a new journey in the agritech sector with the launch of Orbit Farming. Joined by Aishwarya Ramakrishnan, who previously spearheaded strategy, growth, and operations at Krish-e, Gokhale aims to revolutionize farming practices in India.
Orbit Farming targets mid-sized Indian farmers holding 2 to 10 hectares of farmland, offering them innovative solutions to enhance their productivity and profitability. Gokhale expressed his enthusiasm for this transition, stating, "After an enriching 6-year journey at Swiggy, I am starting up again in a sector that has always fascinated me, agriculture! Happy to partner with Aishwarya Ramakrishnan in this journey as we zero in on an idea and launch Orbit Farming."
The startup aims to bridge the gap between traditional farming methods and modern, technology-driven solutions, as indicated on its LinkedIn page. By leveraging mechanization and other advanced techniques, Orbit Farming seeks to empower mid-sized farms to achieve higher yields and income.

Gokhale brings significant experience from his tenure at Swiggy, where he played a pivotal role in managing hiring, retention, engagement, and fleet sufficiency for Swiggy Food and Instamart at the hyperlocal level. Before his stint at Swiggy, Gokhale founded Truce-True Price, an agritech startup, in 2015.
Ramakrishnan, with her background in Mahindra's agritech business, Krish-e, adds valuable expertise to the venture. Having spent three and a half years at Krish-e before parting ways in 2022, Ramakrishnan brings insights into the agricultural landscape and market dynamics.

The duo is actively recruiting to build a founding team aligned with their mission of empowering mid-sized farms. Orbit Farming's vision resonates with a growing trend of Indian executives venturing into entrepreneurship. Recently, Gautam Sinha, former chief executive of Times Internet, launched SimpleO.ai, an artificial intelligence venture, while Karthik Gurumurthy, the brains behind Swiggy Instamart, secured funding for his offline retail venture, Convenio.
Orbit Farming marks a significant step towards addressing the needs of Indian agriculture by harnessing technology and innovation. As the agritech sector continues to gain traction, initiatives like Orbit Farming are poised to make a meaningful impact on the livelihoods of farmers and the agricultural landscape as a whole. With Gokhale and Ramakrishnan at the helm, the future looks promising for Orbit Farming as it strives to usher in a new era of farming excellence in India.
