Farmers' Protest Disrupts Delhi-Chandigarh Highway, Demands Statewide Shutdown in Haryana on June 14

Protesting farmers persist in blocking the Delhi-Chandigarh highway near Pipli as they demand Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Sunflower crop and the release of detained farmer leaders. The farmers have refused to clear the highway, maintaining their stance.

Despite multiple discussions between the farmers and the Kurukshetra district administration on Monday, no resolution was reached as the farmers remained steadfast in their demands. In response, the farmer unions have announced a statewide shutdown in Haryana on June 14.

Furthermore, the farmers have organized a morning panchayat in Kurukshetra on Tuesday to deliberate and determine their future course of action. In order to alleviate traffic congestion, the police are making efforts to divert vehicles. 

Traffic approaching from Delhi towards Chandigarh and Amritsar has been redirected due to road diversions. The diversion begins at Kurukshetra's Sector 2-3 crossing and follows a new route leading to Brahmsarovar and Kurukshetra University's third gate, eventually merging onto National Highway 152-D.

Additionally, an alternative route has been established below the Umri Chowk bridge, guiding traffic via Umri-Indri-Ladwa on the Yamunanagar-Haridwar-Saharanpur highway.

Traffic heading from Chandigarh to Delhi has been redirected via the Ambala-Saha crossing to pass through Dosadka, Adhoya, and Ladwa villages before rejoining National Highway 44 in Karnal. Similarly, traffic traveling towards Delhi has been diverted from Ambala towards Kaithal Road and then via Shahbad to reach Thol village on National Highway 152-D.

Numerous vehicles, including trucks transporting perishable goods, remain stuck on the highway as commuters endure a distressing ordeal since Monday afternoon due to an unexpected blockade of the national highway in Kurukshetra.

On June 6, following the Punjab and Haryana High Court's order to remove the national highway blockade, the leaders were apprehended when the police resorted to force to disperse the protesting farmers.
