Farmers Encouraged to Adopt ‘Pani Bachao Paise Kamao’ Scheme Ahead of Kharif Season

Recently, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) launched a scheme called 'pani bachao, paise kamao' to address the issue of declining groundwater levels in the state. The scheme not only contributes to water conservation but also provides financial benefits to participating farmers. By raising awareness and offering free installations of AMR systems, PSPCL aims to encourage widespread adoption of the scheme among farmers in the state.

The initiative was promoted among farmers during the 'Dooji Sarkar - Kisan Milni' event held at Punjab Agricultural University. PSPCL aims to create awareness about the scheme's benefits and encourage farmers to participate.

The Power Minister of Punjab, Harbhajan Singh ETO, emphasized the importance of conserving natural resources, including water, to achieve the state government's vision of 'Rangla Punjab.' He expressed the government's support for the 'pani bachao, paise kamao' scheme as a novel approach to resource conservation.

At the event, PSPCL Chief Engineer, SR Vashishat, highlighted that the scheme not only conserves water but also provides an opportunity for farmers to earn money. Under the scheme, farmers will be paid Rs 4 per unit for the energy saved.

To monitor power consumption accurately, PSPCL officials advised farmers to install an automatic meter reading system (AMR) at their tubewells. The AMR system will be provided and installed free of charge.

PSPCL Chief Engineer SR Vashishat reiterated the scheme's benefits, emphasizing that it not only helps save water but also provides farmers with an opportunity to earn additional income.

To avail of the scheme, farmers must have the power connection in their name and enroll themselves by submitting a prescribed form along with copies of their Aadhaar card and bank passbook.
