Farmers at Alwar Mahapanchayat Signal Tractor Protest if Nuh Yatra Receives Government Approval
The farmers' meeting highlighted their concerns about the possible disruption of peace in Mewat, a historically tranquil region. Addressing the Kisan Bhaichara Mahapanchayat, organized by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, prominent farmer leader Rakesh Tikait conveyed the potential consequences of permitting the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra in Nuh on August 28.
In a gathering that saw the participation of farmers' groups and representatives from 36 communities hailing from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, a strong warning was issued at the Alwar Mahapanchayat against the potential approval of a controversial yatra in Nuh.
The event took place at Barodameo Sheetal in Alwar on Saturday, where farmers voiced their concerns and indicated that a massive tractor protest would ensue if the state government allowed the proposed yatra organized by right-wing outfits.
The farmers' meeting highlighted their concerns about the possible disruption of peace in Mewat, a historically tranquil region. They attributed recent riots on July 31 to "anti-social elements" who, they claim, ignited tensions. On that day, a mob targeted participants of the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, resulting in a violent clash. The agitation had been escalating over days, fueled by provocative posts on social media.

Tikait stated, "If the Haryana government gives permission to take out the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra in Nuh on August 28, then we will take out a tractor rally. The dates will be decided later at the next panchayat." Despite right-wing outfits announcing the yatra's schedule for August 28, no official authorization has been granted as of now.
Tikait also criticized the ruling party, accusing them of perpetuating conflicts for political gain. He urged parents to prioritize education and employment opportunities for their children rather than involving them in violent clashes. He distinguished between two types of Hindus: those influenced by ideologies originating in Nagpur and those who identify as proud Indians and eschew violence.

Rajaram Meel, the state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) for Rajasthan, emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace in Mewat. He underscored the farmers' aversion to violence and warned that the region could witness a substantial tractor rally if any attempts were made to incite unrest in Nuh-Mewat.
Notably, the Alwar Mahapanchayat also addressed other critical issues concerning farmers. They reiterated their demand for the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), a transformative initiative linking the Parvati, Kali Sindh, and Chambal rivers. Furthermore, they pressed for fair minimum support prices for agricultural produce. The gathering also expressed their opposition to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, citing concerns about arbitrary land acquisition and its potential adverse impact on farmers' interests.
In attendance at the mahapanchayat was Satyapal Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Goa, and Meghalaya. His presence highlighted the importance and gravity of the issues discussed during the event.
As tensions continue to rise over the impending yatra and its potential consequences, the farming community's unity and determination remain strong, setting the stage for a potential showdown between farmers and authorities in the days ahead.
