Farm Sector Expected To Be Second-Largest Drone User In Five Years- VC HK Chaudhary

In Ludhiana, a seminar on the Use of Drone Technology in Agriculture and the opening ceremony of the 'India Agri Progress Expo' was presided over by Prof. HK Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor of the Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University (HPAU).

The vice chancellor emphasized the value of drone technology in farming. In the following five years, he continued, "the farm sector is probably going to be the second largest user of drones in the world."

He claimed that the technology could aid in boosting productivity in tasks such as nutrient application, pest and disease control spraying, crop monitoring and surveillance, soil and field analysis, and more. Additionally, Chaudhary discussed the university's detailed plans for promoting millets during the International Year of Millets as well as upcoming agricultural technologies.

The seminar was jointly organized by Punjab Agricultural University and the Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The exhibition was organized by the Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Association and the Punjab State Agricultural Implements Association.

The honouree at the opening ceremony was Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director of the ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET). The two-day expo was attended by many scientists, extension organizations, policymakers, machine manufacturers, and farmers, according to Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director of ATARI.

Due to their diversity and status as the technology of the future for the agricultural community, drones have received the majority of industry recognition. A navigation system, GPS, numerous sensors, high-quality cameras, programmable controllers, and tools for autonomous drones are typically included with drones. From crop surveillance, field monitoring, planting & seeding, and spray treatment to security, a drone does it all. This is the reason for the popularity of drone systems in agriculture and all these reasons application of drones in agriculture holds crucial importance.
