In a pioneering stride towards technological advancement in agriculture, the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) in Durgapur has unveiled the CSIR Prima ET11, India's first indigenous e-Tractor. The ceremonial launch of this groundbreaking innovation was graced by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space.

Speaking at the event, Dr Jitendra Singh underscored the pivotal role of Agri Startups in shaping India's economy and advocated the incorporation of novel and AI-driven technologies into the agriculture sector. He highlighted the growing trend of startups focusing on niche technologies, such as e-Tractors, recycling solutions, drip irrigation, and genome-sequenced farming for crops like Mango and Lotus.

Dr Singh recognized the untapped potential in India's agricultural sector and stressed the need for the nation to harness its unique agri assets. He asserted, "If I have plenty of agricultural resources, why not make the best use of it? Therefore, this route would be a very important component in India's future economy in the next 25 years."

The Union Minister introduced the concept of the "5 S's" – Showcasing, Stakeholders, Startups, Synergizing, and Strategizing Industry linkage – as the cornerstones for the success of research and development initiatives carried out in government-run scientific laboratories. He emphasized that optimal results can only be achieved through the harmonious collaboration of these five components.

Dr Jitendra Singh called for a holistic approach, advocating close interaction with stakeholders, including relevant Ministries, and fostering stronger ties between CSIR labs and the industry. He proposed the establishment of a dedicated cell to encourage investment in scientific research and technological innovations.

Asserting the Government's commitment to empowering the agriculture sector, Dr Singh highlighted the advancements in Ease of Doing Business within the sector. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating new livelihood avenues through his visionary policies and creating an environment conducive to growth.

During the event, Dr Jitendra Singh released a book by CSIR-CIMAP and a compendium showcasing 75 technologies developed by CSIR. He expressed a keen interest in CMERI's recycling vehicles and products, showcasing his enthusiasm for innovative solutions.

As part of the CSIR-CMERI's efforts to engage with stakeholders and showcase their cutting-edge research, products, and technologies, a theme-based campaign titled "One Week One Lab" will be celebrated from September 11-15, 2023. This campaign aims to present the laboratory's expertise, facilities, and accomplishments to various stakeholders, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
