Delhi Govt Commence Drive to Combat Stubble Burning with Pusa Bio-Decomposer Starting From Today

In a bid to address the pressing issue of stubble burning and the resultant air pollution in the city during the winter season, the Delhi government has announced a significant initiative. On October 13, the government commenced a campaign to spray the Pusa bio-decomposer in paddy fields, offering this service free of charge.

Development Minister Gopal Rai stated that the campaign's launch took place in Tigipur village in Narela. A total of 13 teams have been assembled to carry out the spraying of the bio-decomposer.

The Pusa bio-decomposer, developed by scientists at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in Delhi, is a microbial solution with the remarkable ability to transform paddy straw into valuable manure within just 15-20 days.

This year, the Delhi government's ambitious plan includes spraying the bio-decomposer across more than 5,000 acres of both basmati and non-basmati paddy fields, as outlined by Minister Gopal Rai.

Stubble burning has long been recognized as a significant contributor to air pollution during the winter season. Minister Rai stressed the urgency of taking appropriate measures to address this problem promptly. The government has been actively promoting the use of the bio-decomposer in paddy fields over the past few years as a proactive measure to prevent stubble burning.

The challenge faced by farmers is the short time frame between harvesting paddy crops and sowing wheat. To address this, the government has initiated the bio-decomposer spraying drive early in the season to provide a sustainable solution to the issue.

In addition to the implementation of the drive, the government is actively conducting awareness campaigns among farmers in Delhi to ensure that they understand the benefits and importance of using the bio-decomposer in preventing stubble burning. The combined efforts of the government and the scientific community aim to alleviate the problem of air pollution in the national capital and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
