CropLife India Applauds Advent Of Digital Public Agri Infrastructure- Budget 2023

The Government of India has been applauded by CropLife India, an association of 16 R&D-driven crop science companies, for launching the creation of a strong digital public infrastructure in the agriculture sector to support the crop protection industry in the Union Budget 2023–24. According to the industry association, this will make it possible to provide inclusive farmer-centric solutions through pertinent information services for crop planning and health, improved access to farm inputs, credit, and crop insurance, assistance with crop estimation, market intelligence, and support for the expansion of Agritech startups.

The Government of India has been applauded by CropLife India, an association of 16 R&D-driven crop science companies, for launching the creation of a strong digital public infrastructure in the agriculture sector to support the crop protection industry in the Union Budget 2023–24. According to the industry association, this will make it possible to provide inclusive farmer-centric solutions through pertinent information services for crop planning and health, improved access to farm inputs, credit, and crop insurance, assistance with crop estimation, market intelligence, and support for the expansion of Agritech startups.

To encourage young entrepreneurs in rural areas to start agri-startups, an Agriculture Accelerator Fund will be established. The fund's goal is to provide farmers with creative, cost-effective solutions to their problems. Modern technologies will also be introduced, changing agricultural practices and enhancing productivity and profitability.

"Kisan Drones" was included in the Budget 2022–23 for use in crop scouting, agrochemical spraying, and land record digitization. The establishment of the Digital Public Infrastructure would support the digital ecosystem for agriculture and help the Indian agricultural sector grow.

According to CropLife India Secretary General, Durgesh Chandra, "It is incredibly pleasing to see the launch of Digital Public Infrastructure for agriculture supporting the crop protection industry in the Union Budget 2023–24. The government's initiatives to digitize agriculture and its emphasis on high-tech services will boost rural entrepreneurship and bring youth back to the farms, increasing productivity.

CropLife India and its members have been pleading with the government to lower the GST on agrochemicals from the current 18% to 12% and to allow a 200% weighted deduction on R&D costs incurred by agrochemical companies, both of which would have directly benefited farmers.
