CM KCR Assures Telangana Farmers, Will Procure Every Grain Of Damaged Paddy

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that the state government will purchase all damaged paddy from farmers affected by untimely rains, assuring them that they will receive the same price as normal paddy. He appealed to farmers not to worry about their wet paddy and reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting agriculture and rescuing farmers from hardship.

The Chief Minister directed the agriculture department to study policies that could be adopted to enable the completion of Yasangi paddy harvesting before March in order to avoid untimely rains and urged farmers to postpone their harvest for three to four days.

During a high-level review meeting on the procurement of Yasangi paddy, wet paddy, and activities of the agriculture department, KCR said that the state government’s activities for agricultural development and farmers’ welfare were providing unprecedented benefits, and praised Telangana for surpassing many states in paddy production. He claimed the state government was the only one in the country to implement an action plan for farmers’ welfare with sincerity and determination.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that the hailstorms and untimely rains were unfortunate and beyond human control, but reassured farmers that the government would continue to support them. In addition to providing farmers who had lost crops due to hail storms with INR10,000 per acre, the government would purchase wet paddy to complete procurement as soon as possible.

KCR advised farmers to halt harvesting for three to four days as the state was likely to experience more rain and called on the agriculture department and farmers to take this experience as a lesson and create awareness in advance to avoid future losses. He urged farmers to plant paddy in advance and complete Yasangi paddy harvesting by the end of March each year.

During the review meeting, officials explained the details of Yasangi paddy procurement across the state and the difficulties encountered due to the untimely rains. The commissioner of the civil supplies department, Anil Kumar, assured the Chief Minister that procurement would be completed soon with all necessary arrangements.

The Telangana government’s commitment to rescuing farmers from the impact of untimely rains comes as part of wider efforts to promote agricultural development and welfare in the state. The government is reportedly implementing an action plan for the welfare of farmers with sincerity and determination and has introduced a number of policies aimed at promoting agriculture and supporting farmers.

One such policy is the Rythu Bandhu scheme, which aims to provide income support to farmers by providing them with INR5,000 per acre per season for the purchase of inputs like seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and labour. The scheme is said to have played a significant role in increasing agricultural productivity in the state. Another policy is the Rythu Bima scheme, which provides life insurance coverage to farmers, with the government paying the premium. The government has also launched a number of irrigation projects to improve access to water and promote agricultural growth.

Telangana’s efforts to promote agricultural development and welfare reflect a wider trend in India, where agriculture remains a crucial sector employing millions of people across the country. The government has introduced a number of policies aimed at promoting agriculture and supporting farmers, including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which provides crop insurance to farmers, and the Kisan Credit Card scheme, which offers affordable credit to farmers for crop production and other farm-related activities.

The government has also announced plans to double farmers’ incomes by 2023 and is investing heavily in agricultural infrastructure and technologies to boost productivity and profitability.
