Coming up with the world’s first autonomous spreader, Case IH and Raven Industries Introduces the agriculture industry with ‘Case IH Trident 5550 Applicator’

This innovative solution, unveiled at the Farm Progress Show 2022, is designed to meet customers' demands for autonomous equipment to help solve labor challenges and increase productivity in their operations.

For a flexible autonomous solution, the ‘Case IH Trident 5550 applicator’ with Raven Autonomy combines driverless technology with an agronomically designed spreading platform. Raven's guidance and steering, propulsion control, perception, and path planning software powers the technology stack.

Plan and carry out operations using a mobile device.

Based on mapped field boundaries, operators can plan and complete an entire field operation from a mobile device. The Raven Autonomy perception system constantly senses a 360-degree environment around the machine for obstacles and motion initiation while operating, using a series of advanced cameras and radar.

Raven's perception controller uses artificial intelligence to process a continuous stream of images, interpreting and detecting obstacles. The remote operator can view the cameras at any time using the mobile device.

If an obstacle is detected, the machine will come to a safe stop and an alert will appear on the mobile device. The operator can then assess the situation and decide what steps to take next.

A variety of machine tasks and functions, including but not limited to fuel level, Diesel Exhaust Fluid level, speed, revolutions per minute (RPM), bin-level status, Universal Terminal information, and diagnostic trouble codes, can be viewed remotely via the mobile device.

In the field, one or more driverless machines

The Case IH Trident 5550 applicator with Raven Autonomy allows for one or more driverless machines to be used in the field without an operator present, allowing for full control inside or outside the cab. The autonomous applicator provides the ultimate spreading consistency and allows for repeatable performance with sub-inch accuracy by operating at a constant speed and with precision.

In 2023, the Case IH Trident 5550 applicator with Raven Autonomy will be available in North America with limited availability.
