Farmers from all over the country are benefiting from the rapid procurement of paddy. According to the Food Ministry, the government's paddy procurement has surpassed the 700 lakh MT mark in the current 2022-23 kharif marketing season.

The government intends to purchase 765.43 million MT of paddy during the 2022-23 kharif marketing season (October-September). In the previous kharif marketing season, actual procurement was a record 749 lakh MT.

The procurement for KMS 2022-23 has reached over 702 LMT as of 20.02.2023, and over 96 lakh farmers have already benefited from an MSP outflow of Rs. 1,45,845 crores via direct deposit into their accounts. The government has made every effort to ensure that procurement operations run smoothly.

Rice delivery against procured paddy is approximately 218 LMT in the Central Pool until 20.02.2023, and an adequate rice stock is currently available in the Central Pool to meet the country's requirements.

"Paddy procurement is progressing smoothly with purchases of over 702 lakh MT up to February 20," according to the ministry.

So far, the central pool has 218 lakh MT of rice against the procured paddy.

The estimated paddy procurement from this year's rabi crop will be finalized at the Food Secretaries' meeting on March 1.

With the addition of the rabi paddy crop, it is estimated that approximately 900 lakh MT paddy will be procured during the entire 2022-23 kharif marketing season.
