In a commendable effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Assam government has undertaken an ambitious endeavor to set a new Guinness World Record by distributing the highest number of seedlings within a single day at a single venue. This remarkable event unfolded at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati, where an awe-inspiring line of seedlings, spanning over 22 kilometers and comprising more than 3.2 lakh saplings, was meticulously arranged in a captivating spiral pattern.

The Assam Forest Department has taken the lead in orchestrating this monumental initiative, aiming to distribute over 3 lakh seedlings among a diverse array of recipients, including women, Self Help Groups (SHGs), students, and security personnel. The distribution of these seedlings commenced at 8:30 AM on a Sunday morning, and to date, more than 1.40 lakh seedlings have found new homes.

Satyendra Singh, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) of the Assam Forest Department, conveyed the government's aspirations, stating, "We are making an earnest attempt to establish a Guinness World Record for the highest number of seedlings distributed in a single day at a single venue. Officials from Guinness World Records are present to bear witness to and validate our remarkable effort. On the previous day, we orchestrated the grandest line of seedlings in a spiral configuration, covering an astounding 22-kilometer expanse and totaling more than 3.2 lakh saplings."

Singh went on to mention that the state government has set its sights on achieving an additional seven Guinness World Records by September 17 as part of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan initiative. Under this program, the Assam government aspires to plant a staggering 1 crore saplings across the state on September 17.

Assam's Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing environmental campaign. "The Amrit Brikshya Andolan was inaugurated on Saturday and will remain in effect until September 17. Throughout this duration, we are fervently working to secure nine Guinness World Records. On the previous day, we set up a 22-kilometer-long spiral pattern with over 3,20,432 saplings, and we are hopeful that this will result in a new Guinness World Record," he conveyed. "Today, we are striving to distribute 3.20 lakh saplings from a single venue, surpassing the previous record of 78,000 seedlings."

The Chief Minister outlined other notable milestones within the initiative, saying, "Tomorrow, we endeavor to achieve the highest participation in an online curriculum dedicated to environmental issues and tree plantation. On September 13 and 14, our goal is to plant 12 lakh saplings in Udalguri, potentially setting another record for the highest number of saplings planted within a 24-hour period. On September 25, a dedicated team will plant 3.5 lakh saplings across 25 hectares of land in Dibrugarh. On September 16, we plan to establish another record by planting a tree mosaic in the shape of the Assam map in Margherita."

Dr. Sarma disclosed that on September 17, approximately one crore saplings will be planted throughout the state. "We encourage individuals to capture photos while planting saplings and upload them to our portal, contributing to the creation of the largest online photo album. In the subsequent year, we aspire to expand this album further, with a goal of creating a 3 crore photo album," he added.

Emphasizing the broader significance of this tree-planting campaign, the Chief Minister underscored, "All the saplings being planted possess substantial commercial value and will bolster the tree economy in non-forest areas, ultimately revitalizing our wood-based industry."

The extraordinary efforts undertaken by the Assam government underscore its dedication to environmental preservation, sustainable development, and the pursuit of world records in the process. As the campaign progresses, it holds the promise of leaving an enduring positive impact on Assam's landscape and the global environment as a whole.
